Hi Everyone,
I'm migrating my sql server (2008 R2) to some new hardware. Unfortunately, the network links between the sites are really not very quick.
My idea was to do a full backup and then "differential" during the period until full cut-over to the new hardware. That way, I only do one big bulk move and small "catch up" moves. However, reading the docs on differential backups, there doesn't seem to be an option to make an differential backup based on a specified full backup - only the last full backup. Since the source machine does a full backup nightly, these nightly backups will, I assume, affect the incremental meaning it is useless as the new server will be using a totally different full backup as a base.
Any ideas (or other strategies)?
Thanks
